Charles N'Zogbia brands
Wigan as a "stepping stone" in his career
Wigan Athletic winger Charles N’Zogbia has branded the
Latics
a “stepping stone” on his way to bigger things. The Frenchman has been engineering a move away from the DW Stadium for the best part of a year now, but has only seen concrete interest
from Birmingham City – who he turned down after failing to agree personal terms in the summer.
The former Newcastle man has made an excellent start to the season, proving pivotal to a struggling Wigan side. But, with the Latics languishing in the relegation zone, N’Zogbia has reiterated
his desire to move on when the opportunity presents itself.
The 24-year-old told the
Daily Star, “Wigan's just a stepping stone. They know very well I'm not a player who is going to stay at the club. I give 100 per cent on the pitch, but, if there's a bigger club that wants me, the manager and the president have always told me the
door is open for discussion.”
When players wish to leave clubs nowadays, they usually get their wish. Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is virtually powerless to stop his star man exiting the Lancashire club and he will
just hope the player lives up to his promise of giving 100 per cent every game. It is obviously in the player’s best interests to keep working hard as it will attract potential suitors, so despite the relationship between player and club being somewhat shallow,
it doesn’t mean it won’t work, at least for the short term.
To be fair to N’Zogbia, he wouldn’t be out of place at one of the top six sides in the Premier League. His trickery, pace and superb left-foot make him an extremely tricky customer for
any full-back, so there’ll be plenty of clubs keeping their eye on the wantaway Frenchman.
