Charles Pic confident about Caterham’s potential – Formula 1 news
Charles Pic, who is moving to Caterham from Marussia in 2013 F1 season, has stated that he is confident about the team’s potential to progress.
“Both are very young teams,” Pic said. “For me the Caterham factory is great. We're doing everything we can to make a good car so now we have to work and start to prepare for next year. I think Caterham has big potential - I'm 100 percent confident of that.
We just have to work very hard to improve ourselves to be better next year and to take a step forward.”
Pic denied that the team is under pressure to score its very first point since its formation in 2010. Since there were three teams that made a debut in F1 that year, Pic said that Caterham always been one to be counted as the first of them. He told that
obviously the whole team is aiming to do better and progress in the upcoming season but they are not under pressure. He insisted that that the team’s targets are set which is most important.
Pic had announced his transfer to Caterham in November shortly ahead of the season ending Brazilian GP. The French driver had stated at that time that he was very enthusiastic about joining a team that had technical relations with several French global companies.
Pic’s former team, Marussia, and Caterham had been rivals for the tenth place in the constructors’ championship throughout the season. Marussia had entered the Brazilian GP at tenth place but Caterham had reclaimed that position by the end of the race.
It was being speculated that if Caterham fails to attain the tenth place then they will have to find a teammate for Pic who will be able to bring sponsorship and have close relationship with engine providers Renault.
However, following the results of the end of the season, Caterham still has not announced any driver to partner Pic in 2013. Team principal, Cyril Abiteboul, stated in a recent interview with the F1 official website that they were close to finalising their
2013 driver line up for 2013.
