Charles Pic sets pace in rain hit FP2 of 2012 Belgian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Marussia driver Charles Pic has set the best pace in the rain hit second free Friday practice session of the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Pic topped the timesheets in FP2 and could only cover 4 laps due to the wet weather conditions. Moreover, he was followed by Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso who completed 3 laps.
Ricciardo was followed by the current leader of the drivers’ standings, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who also covered 3 laps and stayed ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India.
Pastor Maldonado of Williams came 5th in the timesheets and completed 4 laps. Furthermore, the Venezuelan driver was followed by Timo Glock of Marussia who seemed comfortable behind the wheel of his car and covered 4 laps.
Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber who set the best time in FP1 struggled during the second session due to the rain and could only set the 7th best time in the charts.
The Japanese driver was followed by Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso who remained ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Force India.
Kobayashi’s teammate, Sergio Perez came 10th in the timesheets and completed 4 laps. Besides, he was followed by Mercedes pair of drivers, Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher.
The seven-time world champion stayed ahead of Heikki Kovalainen of Caterham who moved back to the pits just after covering one lap.
Lewis Hamilton of McLaren came 14th in the charts and completed 2 laps. Furthermore, the British driver was followed by the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
The two-time world champion was followed by Hamilton’s teammate, Jenson Button who stayed ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari who was further followed by Bruno Senna of Williams.
It will be important to mention that there was quite a long list of drivers who didn’t appear on track as they found the conditions quite unfavourable to test their cars so as to make the necessary advancements which mainly include Mark Webber of Red Bull,
Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean of Lotus, Vitaly Petrov of Caterham and HRT drivers, Pedro de la Rosa and Narain Karthikeyan.
Over and above, the rainy condition hampered the possibility of test running during the second practice and all the contenders suffered a loss as they could not assess the essential updates which they brought up in their cars after a tremendous hard work
during the summer break.
Nevertheless, the hopes are still high and every team is now positively looking forward to the third practice session and are expecting the climate to get favourable.
