I'm new to investing and have been doing research. I have narrowed it down to Charles Schwab or E*Trade as the company I want to use. However, I am stuck between the two. Can I get some pros and cons for both. Any help is much appreciated!

  1. Schwab is much more financially sound I think.  Etrade is teetering on the verge of bankrupcy.  Your account of course will be insured by the government, but you may not have access to it for some time if the company fails.   TD Ameritrade too a look at the books earlier this year and said no thanks to a take over.

  2. Munice birder -  E-Trade had run into financial question with their NET CAPITAL, but to say it's on the verge of bankrupcy would not be proper.   Many firms looked at them, it wasn't because of the balance sheet that turned them away it was other factors.

Shcwab is the better of the two firms, not only does he have a better trading platform but it provides much better products and or services.  It probably has a better support staff, and a better order routing system

  3. Who wouldn't want to refer to their investing practices as Chuck?

  4. Schwab or E-Trade ?  that's easy = Schwab

Schwab enjoy a stronger reputation than E-Trade, and provides many more services and affords you more products to choose from.

Schwab has a stronger capital base and it's net capital is higher than E-Trade.

Schwab has the stronger customer service department, which could be an invaluable service when needed.

All broker/dealers are subject to the same rules & regulations but Schwab may enforce them a little stronger than others, but this inforcement is for your own protection.

Go with Schwab, you won't regret it,

  5. I have schwab and love it. Great tools, no additional costs, really fine customer service. I can't think of any real downside. I have had other brokers before, this one is the best of them all, in my humble experience.

  6. Charles Schwab.

Better for providing the support you'll need, 24hrs a day (by phone).
