He convinced semi-retarded and emotionally damaged girls to commit murders, in the name of Helter Skelter his religeon.

The plan was to shock the world by killing top names in Hollywood, aka Sharon Tate. And he also wanted others like Sinatra. etc.

They originally wanted to go the 10055 Cielo Avenue house, to kill a music producer who was supposedly going to make him famous and sign him. But when he wasn't interested he got angry.

They killed a Millionaire Mexican woman, to have her credit card placed in a Black neighborhood, so someone (black) would use it and then the murders would be pitched aginst the blacks.

This was one of his theory that, Blacks were going to Fight and take over the world.

Yeah he is Crazy. Helter Skelter is Crazy.

coincedentally, i was just reading about Sharon Tate today. (Murder Victim) and was looking at footage of the house where it took place...

Manson was a sick individual. He brainwashed the women (and men) by taking them to his secluded ranch and feeding them LSD and having orgies with them. He fed their minds with crazy thoughts of racial wars and end of the world scenarios. He believed that the Beatles wrote songs with messages telling him what to do. Once brainwashing is complete and the people believe you are the one and only you can pretty much make them do anything. He used the women to carry out his plan of killing. They thought they were doing it to please him because he was like their messiah.

he claims to have no responsibility for the murders as he wasnt present when the girls murdered and therefore cant be guilty ...the irony is he ordered the killings thus is directly responsible ....the last manson girl squeeky frome was locked up for attacking a president [reagan ?] ...she lunged at him with and unloaded gun ...claiming to be proving how she 'could have' killed him had she wanted to ...there is a doco called the manson girls that discusses all the four main girls ....and the lives they now lead in jail

Charlie chose girls with specific characteristics and backgrounds. Every woman in 'The Family' had either suffered from abuse in the past, had a low self-esteem or self-contempt, escaped from their parents to rebel, or simply was very naive and easily coaxed. Apart from being pimped out by Manson himself, I believe he chose the girls simply because they were easy targets and willingly took orders. Manson's opinion of women as given in his interviews was also that they are inferior and should take orders, which correlates directly to the status they had as Family members. Manson was also said to be charming and charismatic, and I'm sure he influenced a lot of women this way. Leslie Van Houten said that she fell for Manson the first time they had s*x as he told her she was beautiful which affected her immensely. Being regarded in such an intimate way by a member of the opposite s*x I'm sure validated these women greatly, and hence, they felt an emotional attachment.
