Charleston Lady surprises and pleases her connections by unexpectedly winning the EBF Cockney Rebel Stakes at Lingfield
On 27th October the EBF Cockney Rebel Stakes at Lingfield was won by Charleston Lady who is being trained by Ralph Beckett and was being ridden by Jim Crowley that day. The victory gave an opportunity to Charleston Lady to post another victory
to her career record.
The filly broke her maiden on 25th October last year and after breaking her maiden, it is her first victory. Her inconsistent performance throughout the career was one of the reasons that her victory in the race was quite doubtful. She is mostly
ridden by Jim Crowley, but has also raced with Fergus Sweeney, Martin Lane and Royston F french.
The race was a combination of eleven participants with some really remarkable entries.
Initially Charleston Lady was behind the rest of the lot but then she switched towards the outside, and went headway on bend for two furlongs out. When in the final furlong, she travelled strong to lead the remaining strides.
Crowley said: "They went very fast and I was pretty sure they were coming back to me”.
Crossing the wire right behind the runner up was Amanda Perrett trained Roxy Flyer, who was riding with Ryan Moore and the third to finish the race was, Cill Rialaig, trained by Hughie Morrison who had Richard Hughes aboard.
Positioned fourth in the race was Andrew Balding’s under charge Twin Soul riding with David Probert. Ed Dunlop trained Zafarana was parked on the sixth position by Kieren Fallon and was followed by the entry trained by John Gosden, Highest was in partnership
with jockey Eddie Ahern.
The race was put to an end by Sharp Relief crossing the wire in the end with Robert Havlin and under charge Hughie Morrison. Jockeys like Tom Queally and Silvestre De Sousa were also riding but could not position them in the first three rankings.
The connections are really surprised and pleased with their horse, Charleston Lady who had to suffer defeat in four out of her five runs this year. She really needed this breather to lose away from the disturbing defeats so as to gain back the confidence
of her connections, which are now not at all willing to take her for the December Sales.
