Charley Hoffman returns to PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open in 2012 – Golf News
American professional golfer, Charley Lindley Hoffman, is back in San Diego to participate in the Farmers Insurance Open, scheduled from January 26 to 29, 2012, at Torrey Pines Golf Course.
At Torrey Pines, there are two courses, the North Course and the South Course. Hoffman is grouped with Derek Lamely and Chez Reavie in a three-some match on the opening day, on the South Course.
This will be his ninth appearance in the tournament, he is playing the event as a professional golf player.
Since he joined the Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour in 2007, he is continuously playing the tournament, besides his three appearances as an amateur.
For the last two years, he has not been able to make the cut and had to leave the course in-between the tournament.
However, he is quite confident to make it through this time and be a part of the final two rounds of the event.
His main focus in the tournament is to play well on the North Course, as it is considerably easier among the two available at Torrey Pines.
“My goal is to get out on the North Course and get some birdies,” he said. “Pars are good on the South Course, while you need to get those birdies on the North Course”.
Prior to the tournament, he talked to the media and said that he is coming with a better form this time.
He is getting a positive feedback from his family and friends that will help him enter the field with a positive attitude towards his game.
He told that he will have his family, high school and college friends accompanying and cheering him at the course.
“I do not get a crowd like Phil (Mickelson) or Tiger (Woods), but it is always fun to play when people are rooting you on and giving you positive energy,” Hoffman said.
According to Stacy Vasil, Hoffman’s wife, Farmers Insurance Open is their favourite tournament on the PGA Tour.
“I love it,” she said. “We get to see our family and friends and a lot of people we only get to see once a year during this weekend, so it is always a lot of fun”.
However, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to beat his previous best of the third position finish in the 2009 edition of the tournament or repeat the same he has been doing for the last two years.
