Charley Hoffman tops leaderboard after first round of the Cadillac Championship 2011
The first round of WGC-Cadillac Championship, which was suspended due to bad light on Thursday resumed on Friday at the Blue Monster. Here is a quick glance at the leaderboard after the first round.
Charley Hoffman who could not complete the 18-hole session on Thursday reeled three birdies in the back against a bogey and capped the round with four birdies in the front. The South African encountered problem in driving accuracy, owing to the torrential
winds that blew all morning.
Meanwhile, American seed D.A. Point fired two back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth hole to take a share in the ninth spot. He has seven birdies and two bogeys on his scorecard.
The player who molested Tiger Woods’ confidence in the Accenture Match Play Championship by overtaking him in the first round signed a scorecard of one-under par. Thomas Bjorn picked three birdies in the back against one bogey.
Ryder Cup player, Zach Johnson teed off from the back on Thursday, but had seven holes left when the tournament was bought to a halt. However, on Friday, he failed to take advantage of the pleasant conditions and parred the remaining holes.
Similar performance was given by his compatriot Ryan Palmer. The American picked up a single birdie on the par-5 eighth when he hit a crisp shot with a 2-iron on the fairway. Unfortunately, he could not entertain the crowd with any more and twice missed
par putts.
Winner of the Honda Classic, Rory Sabbatini forgot his winning streak on the Champion Course and topped the bogey stats. The South African was seen struggling with the driver, which was the opposite of what was seen recently. Sabbatini double bogeyed one,
bogeyed four and birdied four holes on Friday.
He was joined by Geoff Ogilvy at the first spot in double bogey stats. Ogilvy teed from the back on Thursday and picked a point, but the halt proved troublesome for the Aussie on Friday. He fell in the rough on the third hole, encountered a bunker on the
fourth and met water on the eighth hole.
