Charley Hull rises to prominence following her decision to play the major event
Charley Hull has grabbed much attention after she decided to play the major championship, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, instead of representing Great Britain & Ireland against America in the Curtis Cup.
Ever since Hull made the decision to participate in the major championship, she has been in the discussions.
Since the Kraft Nabisco Championship is relatively tougher than the Curtis Cup, Hull is likely to face the most competent players on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
The Kraft Nabisco Championship is slated to start from March 26 to April 1, 2012, at Mission Hills, Rancho Mirage, CA, with a fearsome roster featuring tough players on the LPGA.
The current world number one, Yani Tseng, will also be participating in the major championship.
Hull, who is a talented player, is hopeful that by playing among big names in women’s golf, she can gain plenty of confidence and the much-needed skills to do her best on the course.
The 15-year-old grabbed the headlines recently after she received invitation from the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
She quickly decided to play the major tournament, keeping in mind its credibility and prestige. The Championship is often compared with men’s US Masters due to its strong field.
Although Hull has set her sights on the Championship, she does not have big plans. In addition to Tseng, she will play against titans like Stacy Lewis and Dinah Shore.
Moreover, the field of the Championship will also feature Karrie Webb, who is known to give a tough time to her rivals.
Despite her decision to prefer a bigger event over the Curtis Cup, Hull received a deluge of criticism.
The Ladies Golf Union (LGU) acted promptly to disallow the young star to play the Curtis Cup, although the dates of the event tournaments do not clash.
However, Hull’s star has been climbing high ever since she took the step. She received plenty of appreciation from a number of experts and observers.
Catriona Matthew expressed her support for Hull, saying what LGU did was counterproductive. “I think it is a bit short-sighted of the LGU,” she said.
Moreover, Chief Executive of England Golf Union (EGU), John Petrie also patted Hull’s back for giving importance to the major event.
