Charley Hull’s re-selection will spice up Curtis Cup
Charley Hull, who was initially disallowed to play the Curtis Cup, has said that her reselection in the Great Britain & Ireland has boosted her confidence.
Charley Hull, a rising star from England, has been in the news for the last few weeks, as she preferred to play the Kraft Nabisco Championship after receiving an invitation from the officials.
Although the major championship’s date did not clash with that of the Curtis Cup’s team trial, officials of the Ladies Golf Union (LGU) banned her from playing the Cup, triggering criticism from former and current LPGA players.
Now that the LGU has reversed its decision about Hull, analysts have said that Curtis Cup is going be more interesting, as GB&I players have been pressing the officials to include the young prodigy in the squad
Speaking to the media about her reselection in Great Britain & Ireland, the 16-year-old Hull said that she knew from the very start that the officials would have a rethink about her position.
She said that she is thrilled to be in the squad and will try to give a tough time to the United States.
Hull said that after she was banned from the Cup’s team, she was feeling down and disappointed. “I’m back on the team now,” Hull said. “I was upset, obviously, but now I’m really happy”.
Analysts said that Hull is in high spirits these days, and it is expected that the Great Britain & Ireland side will put up a tough fight to end its winning drought.
They said that officials of the Ladies Golf Union had been in a tight spot after expelling Hull form the field.
Great Britain & Ireland has been struggling to regain its glory in the Curtis Cup for the last seven years.
The United States has been invincible in most of the Cup’s editions played so far, which highlights the growing concern in English and Irish players.
Hull participated in the 2012 major championship with plenty of confidence and carded a decent 71 in the first round.
The 16-year-old rookie looked even more solid in the third round, as she posted a massive 68 to finish tied for the 38th.
Experts have said that settling for the 38th place in the major championship has definitely boosted Hull’s confidence, which will help her display an even more solid performance in the Curtis Cup.
