Question:

Charlie's Soap... a homemade alternative thats also good for cloth diapers??

I'm currently using Charlie's Soap (www.charliesoap.com) for my laundry and cloth diapers and I love it!! It is just a hassle to have it shipped every time I need more. Is there a homemade alternative? The website lists the ingredients as "unique blend of biodegradable coconut-based detergents and high-grade, completely soluble, Green River washing soda."

I've made my own detergent before (which I also loved,) using borax, washing soda, and a grated bar of soap. Would this be pretty much the same thing? I'm mostly concerned about the residue getting on my cloth diapers and making them not as absorbant. Any ideas??

  1. i use arm&hammer pure essentials. it's great!

  2. I would suggest using the recipe you mentioned that you previously made. I use the same for my laundry. To prevent a residue, since you are worried about losing absorbancy, use 1/2 cup white vinegar in the final rinse cycle. It works as a natural fabric softener, deodorizes, and removes soapy residue.

The vinegar smell dissipates as it dries.
