Question:

Charlie's in Mini Rex rabbits....?

It has been a while since I showed rabbits. I have been involved with Mini Rex's and I want to get involved with them again. I know that breeding two brokens together can result in some charlie's. Most websites seem to imply that they are bad but don't elaborate. I don't own the Standard of Perfection anymore. I need to know if a charlie colored rabbit is a DQ or is it a fault? Thank-you.

  1. They are showable if they are 10%+ colored.  It is only a fault then.  If they are less than 10% colored, it is a DQ.

  2. A Charlie is considered a rabbit with less than 10% color and no nose or half a nose marking. A broken in Mini Rex has to have a nose marking with preference given for a full "butterfly". When breeding 2 bro kens a percentage of the offspring will be charlies, but you will also get show able marked rabbits.

Better to breed a broken to a solid of the same variety.A charlie is a DQ as it is something that cannot be corrected. It does not have enough color or correct coloring to be shown.

You really should purchase the SOP from ARBA if you are serious about breeding and showing again.

Also check out the NMRRC. This will give you a lot of Mini Rex info.
