http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 midfielder, Charlie Adam believes that his side did not deserve an eight place finish last season, but backed them to reverse their fortunes this time around.
The English International revealed that he was dumfounded to see the Reds play out so many draws at home despite putting up spirited performances. However, he pinned the blame of their shortcomings to their inconsistency, and felt that they will need to
improve on their home record if they are to mount a challenge for a Champions League berth this coming season.
The Anfield outfit plummeted down to the eighth spot after suffering a series of disappointing results since the turn of the year. Consequently, they missed out on a place in the coveted European competition for the third year in the running, but will feature
in the less glamorous Europa League, courtesy their Carling Cup triumph in February.
However, one of the talking points of the Reds underachieving season was their bad luck in front of the goal, which saw them hit the frame of the goal on more than 30 occasions.
Adam, a veteran of 35 games for the Reds, insisted that their dismal eight place finish was not a true sketch of their campaign, and they could have finished much higher up the table had the luck been on their side.
While talking to reporters, he said: “They say the table doesn't lie but we didn't deserve to finish eighth. If we had had a bit of luck on our side we probably would have finished higher.”
The 18 times league champions were forced to settle for a draw in 9 out of their 19 games at Anfield and also suffered 4 home defeats in the preceding term.
The midfielder said on their home record: “I can't believe the amount of times we drew at home. It was incredible but you have got to change your own luck.”
He then went on to say that one area in which they will need significant improvement was in showing consistency, and felt that the reason why Manchester City and Manchester United finished so high above them was due to their unfluctuating form.
