Charlie Beljan charges in the Greenbrier Classic
Charlie Beljan fired an amazing eight-under par 62 in the second round of the Greenbrier Classic, to share the second spot at The Old White TPC, in White Sulphur Springs, on Friday, July 6, 2012.
Beljan got off to a solid start on the back nine of the course, as he recorded two birdies on the first three holes that he played. A couple of birdies on the 16th and 17th took him to four-under par for the round till the 18th hole.
The front nine saw him make a good run once again, as he managed to sink five birdies through seven holes. While finishing his round on the ninth, he failed to save the par and made the only bogey of his round.
Yet, it was a great score posted by the 27-year-old American that allowed him to settle one stroke behind the pace set by Webb Simpson, who had a nine-under par two-round score.
While talking to the PGA Tour website, he told that he was really happy after looking at his scorecard because it was the best round of his career so far.
Moreover, it was kind of a treat to have it recorded on the PGA Tour, which is no doubt the most difficult and prestigious golf tour around the world.
“Today was the best day of my career,” he said. “It was wonderful from the first hole, making birdie, to the last hole I made bogey, but it still didn't matter. I shot 62, which was my career low round out here. And then to do it on the PGA TOUR, each time
I tee it up out here is a treat, and then to do something like I did today is really something special”.
He now plans to bring consistency in his game and repeat the same performance in the upcoming rounds in order to record a strong finish in the end.
“So I'm only halfway there. I look forward to the weekend,” said Beljan, who is now aiming to bag his first PGA Tour victory. “I'm sure it's going to be a zoo and I look forward to it”.
