Charlie Brenneman: Erick Silva has talent and a real good killer instinct – UFC News
Charlie Brenneman, the former Ring of Combat welterweight champion, while sharing his thoughts about Erick Silva, his upcoming opponent, commented that Silva has a lot of talent, steam and some really good killer instinct adding that he is concentrating
on preparing a game plan to nail the Brazilian.
Erick and Charlie are scheduled to take on each other in a non-title bout on UFC on FX3 which will be televised live on June 8, 2012. The event is being headlined by the flyweight bout between Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall whereas Charlie and Erick will
co-headline the fight card.
The octagon for the showdown will be set up at BankAtlantic Center situated in Sunrise, Florida, United States and will also have Fuel TV and Face book preliminary cards as well.
Charlie, 31, has been in a total 18 mixed martial bouts and boasts 16 wins. The Pennsylvania brawler has nailed five of his opponents by knockout, three by submission and eight by either split or unanimous decision. Also known as ‘The Spaniard’, Charlie
caught media’s attention when he grabbed an impressive unanimous decision win over Rick Story.
It must be noted that Brenneman accepted the bout on just one-day notice and created a huge upset. During the interview Charlie while discussing Erick stated, “I don’t know if I can say he’s overrated because we don’t know if he's going to produce or not
yet. His steam is a little ahead of his production. He’s definitely got a lot of talent. Last time I was in this kind of situation, I came out with flying colors, and I hope this goes the same way.”
Charlie, who basically comes from a wrestling background, further added that he is not concerned about Silva’s skills or talent. The only thing he is thinking at the moment is how to tackle the Brazilian to come out of the octagon victorious.
While sharing his probable game plan, Brenneman revealed that he has seen Erick’s brawling videos and has decided to change his style in fact revamp himself into an altogether different brawler.
Brenneman commented that even those men with no wrestling history were able to grab a win over Erick. Charlie stated, “A lot of guys I'm guessing that don't have my wrestling background that have been able to take him down and do some work on the top. That's
something I'm confident would be in my favor.”
In the last Charlie admitted that he has decided to concentrate on his standup game in addition to revamping his ground game. Erick, 27, has been in a total 15 mixed martial art bouts and boasts 13 wins.
The Brazilian pounder has nailed three of his opponents by knockout, seven by submission and three by decision. Silva will enter his third UFC career bout and is currently 1-1.
