It was a great day for Charlie Davies when he made a comeback to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/DC-United-c38901 after a drastic accident that took a year and a half from him. The player had a car accident in 2009 and for the last 17 months, he has been working out to be back with his team-mates
and his patience finally paid off with a brace. Davies was a part of the team that played its Major League Soccer season opener against Columbus Crew on Saturday.
RFK Stadium was jam packed with audience and it was much anticipated that Davies will make an appearance in the field. It was 56th minute in the game and Ben Olsen called the striker to go into the field in No.9 jersey, in place of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joseph-Ngwenya-c19518.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dax-McCarty-c10719 handed the ball over to the player with
confidence. “I was taking that ball. I told Wolff right away, ‘I’m taking this.’ And Dax came over with the ball, and he handed it to me and says, ‘We trust you and believe in you.’ That says it all,” said Davies after the match.
The player did not miss the chance and took the ball to the danger zone. Davies, without missing a single moment, slotted the ball past right side of the Crew keeper, Will Hesmer.
This however, was not the end for the striker as he got the next chance to double the expectation in 77th minute. The signature try from the star player bore fruit to the whole team as Davies cemented the lead in the first league match.
Davies intercepted a loose pass from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chad-Marshall-c8746, already struggling to get the possession of it. The ball got attached to Charlie’s feet who tackled the keeper and slugged it into the net to score a brace in the first match after a gap of two seasons.
The player was not expecting such a warm welcome from the audience as they cheered him on his first foot in the field. “The support was overwhelming and, once that final whistle blew, and I looked at the fans, I lost it emotionally because their support
meant so much to me,” he said. “Throughout this whole process of me coming back as a player, they’ve stuck with me from the beginning to the end, until now.”
However, the player does not want to get carried away with Saturday’s performance. According to Davies after the first match, there are still certain aspects of his game that he has to work on.
