Charlie Furbush sparks as Seattle Mariners defeat Boston Red Sox 5-3 - MLB Update

Seattle Mariners’ starter, Charlie Furbush had a notable day with the ball as he permitted just one earned run and pitched his seven innings with an ERA of 4.01 in the Mariners’ 5-3 win against Boston Red Sox at Safeco Field, Seattle on August 14.
During the first two innings, the batters looked immobilised throughout their sloppy shots. Mariners’ right-fielder Ichiro Suzuki flied out without posting any run while at first base Franklin Gutierrez fouled out and Dustin Ackley grounded out. Similarly,
Red Sox short-stop Jed Lowrie grounded out to third base while Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz both struck-out looking.
Mariners’ batters smashed three runs in third inning to get a 3-0 lead. Jack Wilson reached to short-stop position on an infield single and Casper Wells completed a single run. The second run was taken by Wilson when Gutierrez hit a sacrifice fly towards
left-field. Kyle Seager put third run on score-board when Mike Carp singled off right-field, Suzuki moved to third and Ackley occupied second base to end the three-run campaign.
During fourth inning, Red Sox got off the mark by adding one run to their individual score-card and reduced their lead 3-1. Adrian Gonzalez posted a single run when Lowrie bunted a sacrifice fly to left-field. Mariners continued to raise their lead as in
fifth inning, they scored one run to take a 4-1 lead.
Suzuki posted one run for Mariners when Ackley drove a single-run shot to centre-field and Gutierrez occupied second base to end the fifth inning. Wells hit a solo homer (377 feet) towards left-field to give Mariners a 5-1 lead at the bottom of sixth inning.
The pitchers overpowered the batters during seventh inning. Furbush gave up just four hits, one run including two walks on his 95 pitches and struck-out six batters. Speaking to reporters, Furbush said, “Everything kind of was working, depending on the hitter.
I've faced these guys before, so there were a few things I wanted to stick to in certain situations, certain counts, certain hitters.”
Red Sox batters cut their deficit 5-3 by contributing only two runs during eighth inning. Youkilis struck a two-run homer (390 feet) towards left-field and Dustin Pedroia added a single run.
After winning a series finale, Mariners confirmed a 2-1 lead in the three-game series played at Safeco Field.
