Charlie Lister’s couple reaches Coors Northern Sprint final at Sheffield
Trainer, Charlie Lister recorded a double in the Coors Northern Sprint heats, held at Sheffield on Tuesday night, October 30th. The venue hosted plenty of big races, but the highlight was three first-round heats of the Sprint, the final of which
would be held on Sunday.
Charlie Lister’s camp completely dominated the affair. In the first heat, Lister’s Showsec Scurry Cup winner, Drumna Ice, hardly faced any difficulty in storming to the victory. After leaving the orange box, the brindle dog showed immense pace, and attained
a handsome lead in the initial stages. Making no mistake thereafter, the 2-5 favourite notched up the top rank easily by a couple of lengths. He wrapped up the 280 metres affair only in 16.15 seconds.
Heat 2 had no Charlie’s trainee. It saw Little Reminder produce a wonderful effort. The black dog justified his highest odds of 4 to 5, seizing the top rank by two and a half lengths. He started his run from the second trap, and led at the very first bend.
Not looking back, the P. Rosney-trained kept running furiously, and reached the wire in 16.24 seconds.
A huge upset was seen in the third heat. Another Charlie Lister-trained, Glanmire Phanter, raised many eyebrows by trouncing the 4-9 favourite, Jumeirah Dubai, by 2¾ lengths. An outstanding start helped the big fellow lead at the first bend. He made no mistake
after getting his head in front, and eventually finished the party in just 16.01 seconds – the fastest time in the first round.
The bettors also showed a lot of interest in three heats of the Sheffield Stadium Maiden 480. All three events were mighty entertaining, but the first one produced real thrill. Floral Jake, the 12-1 chance, took a shock 1-length win, beating Catunda Turin
and the 8-11 favourite, Killahan Eclipse.
In the second meeting, Gaytime Triggs cruised to an easy 2¾-length victory. The 8-11 favourite, Bowtime Jagger, could only secure the runner-up spot. Heat 3 was dominated by Galley Droopy, who remained ahead throughout. The black dog got into a commanding
position by taking a wonderful start. He kept the good work going, and grabbed the top prize by one and a half lengths.
