Charlie Lister’s stalwart shines at the Williamhill Puppy Derby Final at Wimbledon, winning £6,000
Tuesday night, Eden Star won the Williamhill Puppy Derby to bring his owner winnings worth £6,000. He bolted across the 480m race track in 28.51 seconds and made the night all about his performance.
Eden Star’s part owner, Albert Draper, died earlier this summer. Speculating on Eden Star’s performance, his son, Trevor Draper said that it was a good result for the family.
With the ongoing riots in London and other areas, the victory definitely lifted the moods of the people at the race track..
The Williamhill Puppy Derby Final was an open race, lasting for about 29.79 seconds till the last dog crossed the wire.
Eden Star would definitely trace the footsteps of his sire, Top Savings, and bring several medals home, having a similar physique and racing ability as his sire.
Top Savings also sprinted across the 480m race track, finishing first in the heats of Williamhill Puppy Derby in 28.33 seconds.
Halfway down the track, Eden Star was five lengths ahead of all the other contenders. Farloe Mysterio tried to catch up with him but failed to do so, making it second to the wire in 28.61 seconds, one and a quarter length short of Eden Star.
Trainer R. Brian’s Malbay Phanter made it third in 28.99 seconds, not even close to the likes of Eden Star and Farloe Mysterio, finishing four and three quarters of a length short of Farloe Mysterio.
Trainer C. Kyme’s Share The Spoils finished the race at the same time as Malbay Phanter, but unfortunately his speed placed him at the fourth position.
P Garland’s Newtown Skiptipp made it fifth with a difference of 54 points, six and three quarters of a length short of Share The Spoils and Malbay Panther.
Needless to say such a wide difference in length reflects that the dog needs to build up his strength and practice to match the calibre of dogs like Eden Star.
Pick A Bunny was the last to cross the finish line in 29.79 seconds, three and a quarter of a length short of Newtown Skiptipp.
This year’s Williamhill Puppy Derby Final’s result makes Eden Star a strong contender and favourite for next year’s races.
He would be competing as a regular greyhound and Barry Draper’s training would smooth whatever rough edges Eden Star has by next year.
