Charlie Manuel happy working with Ryne Sandberg as he joins coaching staff - MLB Update
Philadelphia Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel is happy working with the newly appointed third base coach Ryne Sandberg. Many believe Sandberg is going to become the next manager of the Phillies.
With the speculations doing the round in this regard, Manuel may experience feelings of insecurity as both of them carry out their jobs.
Manuel will have his contract expired by the end of next season which means that the door for becoming manager will be opened for Sandberg by then.
Sandberg has been promoted from the Minor League. His success there is the major reason why the Phillies turned to him as soon as they announced the ouster of three of their coaches the other day.
Further changes can be expected from the Phillies as they prepare for the upcoming season.
An extremely unimpressive performance in 2012 regular season has given way to intense criticism at the management and players from the experts and the fans alike.
Despite having some of the best players of the game, Phillies failed to make it to the playoffs. They have been Division champion in the National League East for the last five years.
To this effect, an end of their hegemony this season is bound to cause disappointment among the fans.
Manuel will most probably retire after the next season. In light of this, he will be looking to end up on a high by leading the team to a substantial position and ensuring the restoration of their dominance in the Division.
He is planning different ways to make sure next year they stay on-course right in the beginning and end up becoming the title winner.
He looks forward to be working closely with players and helping them sort out their issues.
Far from giving any impression of insecurity, Manuel is at-ease doing his job along with Sandberg, who possibly is his successor.
“I have a contract and it’s good,” Manuel said. “I’ll get caught up in the fact that I love baseball and how determined I am to see us play better. That won’t be a problem at all. I think any problem that comes up we can handle it. I like everything about
Ryne Sandberg.”
It will be interesting to see as to how Manuel makes the last year of his contract with the Phillies worth remembering.
