Charlie Manuel has chat with Jimmy Rollins after lack of hustle on the field - MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies manager Charlie Manuel is unhappy with the way the veteran shortstop Jimmy Rollins is reacting to the hits in the field.
Rollins the other day was upset and therefore when a ball was hit toward him he was not as energetic in grabbing the ball as he was supposed to be. Such an act is unacceptable for Manuel who is known for keeping his players focused and electrified in the
field.
For the same reason on the eve of the start of Thursday’s game, Manuel planned to remove Jimmy from the line-up. However when he had a chat with the shortstop, he was convinced that Rollins will not repeat it again.
While the Phillies are out of contention, this does not mean that Manuel will let his players show nonchalance and give up the effort for winning the games. Regardless of where the team stands, getting the players perform at their potential remains the foremost
priority of Manuel.
Generally Manuel is renowned for his success of the clubs he manages. However, in the current year he has failed to take his team to a respectable position in the season. Right from day one his players are putting up dismal shows.
While he has condoned the poor performances, he cannot accept the fact that players show signs of lethargy in the field.
Meanwhile, Rollins has come up with an interesting observation of the fact that he was questioned by Manuel about the lack of hustle. He believes the unimpressive performance in the season of the whole team is the major reason why he is being talked to.
"Those things only come about when you lose, and that's the truth," Rollins said. "Nobody said nothing the day before when you win, or when you go from first to third on a ground ball up the middle, or when you score (from first base) on a ball hit down
the line."
Manuel on the other hand is adamant in his uncompromising stance toward the basic rules.
"We have two rules: Hustle and be on time," Manuel said. "We'll see. That's all I have to say. This is between Jimmy and me."
As Rollins has realised that he is being noticed, he will be trying to get rid of the slackness and come up with improved performance in the field next time.
