Charlie Manuel not concerned about retiring even as his contract expires in 2013 - MLB News
Philadelphia Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel is least bothered regarding his retirement. He is under contact with the Phillies until 2013 and thereafter he is expected to relinquish his managing job. Currently he is happy with the way he is carrying out
his job. For as long as he can do it effectively the question of the retirement will not prevail in his mind.
However he has clarified that he will be extremely satisfied with his career even if he gives up the managerial role after the 2013.
So far in the season, Manuel has tried hard with the players to get the Phillies to improve their winning percentage. Unfortunately most of the players in the clubhouse have disappointed him immensely. For the same reason, the Phillies stand at a dismal
position on the National League East Division table unlike their performance in the last five years.
However, Manuel will be content now as he sees his team improving in the second half. This has helped Manuel in recovering their lost pride to some extent. As the season heads toward its conclusion, the speculations among the experts are underway regarding
whether Manuel will stay in the Phillies after 2013 or not.
On this issue, the Phillies’ General Manager Rubén Amaro, Jr. expresses that he has not planned yet about the successor of Manuel. For some time now, paying heed to this issue is not on his agenda.
He has made it clear that the possible contenders working in their Minor League farms for the job in the place of Manuel are not part of the discussions at the moment.
By the time Manuel inked the agreement with Phillies, he had stated that he will end his career with the same club.
"I want to stay in Philadelphia for as long as I’m in baseball,” Manuel said. “I’m a Phillie and I look at myself as a Phillie. Yeah, I was with the Indians and the Kintetsu Buffaloes, and the Yakult Swallows, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, but I’m a Phillie.
When I cut my arm, it’s going to come out red, not blue. That’s how I look at it.”
Regardless of when he retires, Manuel’s foremost important task at the moment is helping the Phillies finish the season on a high.
