Charlie Manuel terms side 'whacked up' as Philadelphia Phillies slump continues - MLB Update
Miseries abound for the Philadelphia Phillies. Any area one can think of, the Phillies have issues sprouting up and getting their progress marred by. Hardly effects of one injury subside, before another one arises, bogging them down in their quest.
With a latest entry of Freddy Galvis in the list of injuries, the Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel is heartfelt with the misfortune.
Languishing at bottom of the National League East Division table, the Phillies have reasons to curse at what has brought them to this stage.
Just a week ago, Roy Halladay, their ace, was reported with shoulder injury and hence was put on a lengthy Disabled List. He will be missing for six to eight weeks.
Before this, their offence had lived the whole season, and continues to be so, without one of the most dependable hitters in National League, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard.
That had translated into a slump of the offence. Despite the fact, they had players like Shane Victorino and Jimmy Rollins, along with Hunter Pence, failure was unavoidable for them.
It was so as hardly there was anyone in the line-up, who can supply home runs on regular basis. Pence, though has the potential to thrash homers, but unlike Howard, he cannot become a formidable force, during crucial moments of the game.
In-spite of emphasising the need to stay focused and working forward, Manuel was unable to hide feelings of pessimism from his words. He knows they are heading to a disastrous season, if the decline is not reversed.
“Everything about our team is kind of whacked up right now,” Manuel said. “You talk about our offense and our pitching and sometimes we don’t play very good defense. We got to get it together and play better. We’re actually not playing good enough to win.”

While the Manuel’s hopes touch bottom, massive strides that Utley and Howard are taking in recovery can easily become a silver-lining. Utley, during an extended rehab game, managed valuable hits on plate, and thus showed strong credentials to come back to
the season.
Bad times has prolonged for the Phillies. They cannot afford to keep piling up defeats, if pride of being last year Division Championship is to be restored.
They will be looking to break the jinx and start a new journey in the season, as soon as possible.
