Charlotte Bobcats President Rod Higgins: Michael Jordan did not make Adam Morrison decision – NBA Update
The Bobcats brought is Adam Morrison as the 3rd overall pick in the NBA draft back in 2006 and that decision has haunted them ever since. Morrison turned out to be an unprecedented bust and the choice further damaged Michael Jordan’s reputation
as an executive in the NBA.
Now Charlotte Bobcats President Rod Higgins has spoken up to deflect some of the blame on Jordan, saying the former Chicago Bulls player wasn’t the one who made the pick. Higgins, who wasn’t at the franchise in 2006, said from what he had been told it was
the decision others in the organization, including the coach.
“No,” Higgins said. “From my gathering, because I wasn’t here at that particular time, I thought that was Bernie Bickerstaff.”
The subject has come back into focus following the 2012 NBA draft lottery. The Bobcats, who were favourites to land the number 1 pick lost out to the New Orleans Hornets. This means that the Hornets will now most likely pick up Anthony Davis, the hottest
player to come out of the draft for years.
All of this leaves Bobcats with a tough decision to make regards the second overall pick, for which there is no consensus candidate. Rod however said that Charlotte were reasonably assured that they will make the right call.
“Every team has to kind of go through that process because you can second guess. I’ll sit here and tell you guys that we’re fairly equipped to make sound decisions.”
He pointed to a number of youngsters in the team currently that the Bobcats feel are on course to become future stars. The ones Higgins mentioned were Bismack Biyombo, Kemba Walker and Gerald Henderson.
“You can go back and forth and always say ‘what if,’ but at the end of the day, I think that Kemba Walker and Bismack (Biyombo) are going to be pretty good. ... I think Gerald Henderson is going to be pretty good."
Charlotte were the first team in the 2011 – 2012 NBA season. Over the last few years the side has deliberately traded away their better players including Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson. It remains to be seen how long the franchise will take to turn things
around under Michael Jordan.
