Charlotte Bobcats en-route to becoming the worst team in NBA History
The Charlotte Bobcats are on their way of becoming the worst team in NBA history.
Charlotte is currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and has the worst win loss record in the league. But, more importantly, if they do not score a win in whatever games there are left in the regular season; Michael Jordan
owned franchise will go down in history as the worst team in the NBA ever, a title no self-respecting team would want on their heads.
Charlotte is currently 7-53, at a win percentage of 0.117. If the Bobcats loses its remaining 6 games in the season, they will finish with a 7-59 record which makes a winning percentage of 0.106, the lowest ever in NBA history.
The record is currently held by the Philadelphia 76ers team of 1972-73, who finished the season 9-73, a winning percentage of 0.110.
Charlotte guard Matt Carroll revealed recently that has been talking with his team mates about this for the past few weeks, trying to motivate them to win a game in order to avoid the catastrophic end to the season.
“We are desperate to get a win. No one wants to be known as the worst team in NBA history. I've been talking about this with guys on the team for last two weeks telling them we at least need to get one more win. I think guys at
first heard it but weren't thinking it was going to happen. But now everybody is aware it could happen, so we better get a win” said Carroll.
The Bobcats have a tough task ahead if they want to prevent earning this record. They play the mighty Chicago Bulls next, followed by the Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic and finally the New
York Knicks.
These are all solid teams to play against, and the only team against which they could fancy themselves winning is the Washington Wizards. Washington currently holds the 2nd worst record in the league, but defeated Charlotte
by a whopping 28 points just last week. A win over Washington would also not be a piece of cake, especially when Washington have the psychological advantage of having won their last game.
The Bobcats are playing without their leading scorer Corey Maggette. They have not shown any signs of a winning team all season, and have lost their last 17 games which is a franchise record. Coach Paul Silas is also hoping for
one win to keep the record away from the team.
“I would love to get a win - that's our goal. We can't make open shots right now. We just have to keep fighting. You look at our roster and we are trying, but it's awfully tough. It's tough on the players, it's tough on the coaches
and it's tough on the people upstairs" said Silas.
The Bobcats could have won the one game they required to stay clear of the worst record Monday night against the New Orleans Hornets, the team with the worst record in the West. However, the Bobcats let that game get away as well,
losing 75-67. Now with a tough schedule lying ahead to close the season, the Bobcats need to find some motivation and muster a surprise win over one of the 6 teams they are due to play in order to prevent themselves from being named the worst team in NBA history.
