Charlotte Bobcats hire two more assistant coaches under Mike Dunlap – NBA News
The Charlotte Bobcats, continuing with their team building efforts, have hired two new assistant coaches to add to the two they hired in July.
The four assistant coaches will now work under recently signed head coach Mike Dunlap, and will attempt to develop the young players on the Bobcats roster. Charlotte finished with the worst record in the NBA last season, which
led to them firing their head coach Paul Silas and they brought in Dunlap in the hopes of rebuilding the team and ending their recent poor showing in the NBA.
Dan Leibovitz and Brian Winters are the two assistant coaches added to the Bobcats coaching staff, where they will join assistant coaches Stephen Silas and Rick Brunson.
Silas and Brunson were hired by the Bobcats in July.
“It was important to me to put together a coaching staff that mirrors my coaching philosophy and one that will consistently challenge our players to get better each and every time they hit the basketball floor. When I selected
my staff I wanted to assemble a group that will care about the players, care about the team and love to teach the game of basketball,” said Bobcats Head Coach Mike Dunlap.
Leibovitz is a veteran coach, having 16 years of collegiate coaching experience. He spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania. He was the head coach of the University of Hartford from 2006
to 2010. Prior to that, Leibovitz was an assistant coach under John Chaney with Temple University for 10 years.
Winters has past experience of NBA coaching, and was the head coach in Vancouver from 1995 to 1997. He was also the man incharge of the Golden State Warriors from 2001 to 2002.
Winters was the 12th overall pick of the 1974 NBA Draft, and played nine seasons in the NBA for the Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks. He averaged 16.2 points, 4.1 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game, and made it to the All
Star team twice in his career.
The Bobcats have gone through tremendous restructuring this offseason, completely changing their coaching staff. They also had the number 2 draft pick in this year’s NBA Draft, and added a few players to their roster in the hopes
of putting up a better campaign next season than their dreaded last season in which they finished with the worst losing record in NBA history.
