Charlotte Bobcats host Harrison Barnes for workout session – NBA News
The Charlotte Bobcats hosted North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes on Thursday morning for a workout at the training facility.
The Bobcats have the number 2 pick in the NBA Draft scheduled for June 28th and Barnes; they are considering Michael Kidd Gilchrist, Thomas Robinson of Kansas and Andre Drummond of Connecticut. The latter two are scheduled
to work out for the team on Friday.
Barnes comes from North Carolina, the same college as that of team owner Michael Jordan. Barnes said that Jordan is one of his biggest inspirations and role models, and wanted to shoot some hoops with him.
"I was going to ask him for a shooting contest, but he dipped out a little early. But it was fun to play in front of him,” said Barnes.
The Bobcats finished last season at the bottom of the league, with the worst record in NBA history. The team management did not offer a new contract to former coach Paul Silas and recently announced Mike Dunlap as their new head
coach after a rigorous hunt that saw them interviewing 10 different coaches.
Dunlap was present at the workout for Barnes and came out impressed with the player.
“It would be nice to be close to where I played college basketball, but ultimately that's not my decision. Obviously, they're looking to improve in every position, so it's just a matter of what they feel they need the most, whether
it's a perimeter player or a big,” said Barnes after the session.
Barnes landed a spot in the first team All ACC and the 2nd team All American last season. He has been hailed by scouts as a great shooter. However, his ball handling skills remain a question mark and it remains to be
seen if he can create plays on the floor.
Barnes has worked out for Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards already, but the Bobcats would get first pick on Barnes. Anthony Davis of Kentucky is being tipped to be the number 1 pick, which leaves Charlotte
with a lot of options.
The Bobcats have already worked out Florida’s Bradley Beal and Kentucky’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Asked what he thinks his chances are of being picked number 2 in the Draft, Barnes said:
"There's a lot of teams that are interested, anywhere from two through eight, two through 10. I mean, it's all a possibility."
