Charlotte Bobcats land Kemba Walker; Jimmer Fredette drafted at No.10 – NBA Draft 2011 Part-5
No.9 - Charlotte Bobcats
Kemba Walker
When someone like Kemba Walker goes in at 9th, the draft has to strange. The point guard is an extremely talented little fellow and the Charlotte Bobcats would surely be thanking their lucky stars that the player was
available at number 9.
Walker had a tremendous year in college before declaring for the draft. He averaged 23.5 points a game as well as 4.5 assists. The player led Connecticut to the NCAA Championship and time and again took over at clutch moments.
Even though Kyrie Irving and Brandon Knight went ahead of him on draft night, it was Kemba Walker who won the Bob Cousy Award, given to the United States top college point guard.
The only downside seems to be his small frame. Kemba stands 6-foot-1 and there are fears he could have trouble guarding larger, stronger point guards in the NBA.
But there are plenty of upsides to counter that. Kemba is a very quick player and goes wherever he wants to on the court. He can create for himself whenever he wants to and gets to the free throw line a lot. Most of all, his extended
stay in college has seen Walker develop some great leadership skills and he isn’t afraid of taking responsibility in critical junctures of the game.
Those qualities could make him a standout player for the Bobcats.
No. 10 - Milwaukee Bucks
Jimmer Fredette
Traded to Sacramento Kings on draft night, the Bucks could come to regret it.
Jimmer Fredette or “The Jimmer” already has fans around the NBA. Dwyane Wade, Paul Pierce and Doc Rivers have endorsed him as a future star and that is exactly what Fredette is going to be in the league.
However, his ability to defend is what’s in question. The Jimmer is a talent and a good one at that. But like many gifted players, lacks a bit on the defensive end. If he can work on that, the league is in for a ride.
Drafted at No. 10, Fredette was no. 1 in scoring at college last year. His 28.9 points a game came off the back of a terrific scoring range. The guy can shoot from way back, and he nails it too. He’s also smart on the court and
has plenty of moves to create space for himself. If you pay him too much attention he would find the open teammate.
A player that the Sacramento Kings could do with, but they need to be careful of the balance in the team. Fredette tends to be in the spotlight more often than not and things could get uncomfortable in the already infamous Sacramento
Kings locker room.
