Charlotte Bobcats on road to become NBA’s worst team ever – NBA Update
Charlotte Bobcats are in hot waters as they have been labelled as NBA’s worst team ever, while the living basketball legend Michael Jordan, who was decorated 6 times as NBA champion, maintains silence.
Charlotte Bobcats, who are co-owned by Jordan are on a skid, they are currently on a 16 game losing streak, while they had won 3 and lost 26 matches in this shortened season.
They had opened a new epoch as they can’t challenge the infamous 72 losses of 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers' due to lockout-shortened season back then.
But Bobcats do have a worst winning percentage of 0.103 and even the Sixers of 1972-73 can’t beat that. While the team suffers at the hand of its progeny, Michael Jordan maintains a low profile under the radar of media. He keeps
on refusing to give any interviews lately.
The entrepreneur façade of Jordan has certain grey areas that remain a mystery to most of the people.
First there were key player’s trade off, now playing with a roster that encompasses rookies and then eyeing a cheesy lottery pick, it has been envisaged by the pundits of game that Jordan is following the same plan.
Steve Kerr, an NBA analyst speculated the same.
"They are a total disaster right now. They are going to have to get lucky in the lottery and be really strong as an organization in the next couple of years to get out of this."
The management consider the current happenings as a part of the bigger plan, that will be coming together in due course of time. Rod Higgins Bobcats president of basketball operations once mentioned that the key is to be patient
with the building process and to avoid any kneejerk reactions.
Bobcats are expected to be under $20 million salary cap next year and eventually they will be hiring players. Based on their current placing in the league they will be entitled the top pick in the draft.
But it all comes down to Jordan’s discretion and previously he has not been that prudent with the pick.
Since 2006, he has selected 8 players in the first round and by the end of the day only four remained with them.
The most unfathomable decision was to pick Gonzaga's Adam Morrison as the third overall pick in 2006, while they had a choice of selecting Rudy g*y.
Jordan’s list of blunders is stretched over the years, but that alone cannot be justified as the reason behind Charlotte’s ordeal.
Injuries have also played a pivotal role in their plight, as Maggette, D.J. Augustin and Gerald Henderson, the top three scoring players, have missed 38 games combined due to injuries.
The franchise’s administration will thus have to articulate new strategies as Bobcats have lost their last eight games with an average of 22.5 points.
The punch line is that they have succeeded to go down in the history as one of the worst teams ever.
"Everybody wants to make history but you don't want to make history that way," said Bobcats guard Matt Carroll, currently in his second stint with Charlotte. "You don't want to be that team."
