Charlotte Bobcats sign Ramon Sessions for a two year deal – NBA News
The Charlotte Bobcats have agreed to a two year deal with former Los Angeles Lakers point guard Ramon Sessions.
Jared Karnes, Sessions agent, told ESPNLosAngeles.com that the deal was final. The financial terms of it are however yet to be announced.
Sessions played point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, who acquired him at the trade deadline from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Sessions played 23 games for the Lakers, averaging 12.7 points, 6.2 assists and 3.8 rebounds.
He had a dismal performance in the playoffs, where he failed to make any significant impact and opted out of his contract at the end of the campaign.
After having initial talks with him regarding a new contract, the Lakers signed free agent point guard Steve Nash in a sign and trade deal with the Phoenix Suns.
The Bobcats, in an attempt to land Sessions, rescinded their qualifying offer to D.J Augustin on Thursday, making him an unrestricted free agent. The Bobcats saved $4.4 million in salary cap by letting him go, and used that money
to land Sessions.
Augustin was drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats with the 9th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. In the 4 seasons for the Bobcats, he averaged 10.9 points, 4.4 assists and 2 rebounds. He has reportedly signed a one year
deal with the Indiana Pacers.
With the signing of Sessions, the Bobcats now have both Sessions and Kemba Walker as candidates for the starting point guard position. Walker was the 9th pick of the 2011 NBA Draft and played well in his rookie season
with the Bobcats. He started in 25 games, and averaged 12.1 points, 4.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds. Due to the fact that this will be only his sophomore year in the NBA, Walker is likely to come off the bench while Sessions will start in the backcourt alongside
newly acquired shooting guard Ben Gordon. However, Walker is sure to give tough competition to Sessions for the starting spot as he leads the first rotation.
Earlier, it was reported that the Dallas Mavericks were looking to acquire Ramon Sessions to strengthen their back court after both Jason Terry and Jason Kidd decided to sign contracts with other teams. They however went for Darren
Collision in a trade with Indiana Pacers.
