Charlotte Bobcats still considering offers for their second draft pick – NBA Update
There have been recent reports of the Charlotte Bobcats wanting to trade away their second pick in this year’s NBA draft.
Mike Dunlap the new head coach is the most ardent supporter of such a move and few days back, he openly backed that option.
With speculation increasing about the situation, Bobcats’ general manager Rich Cho talked about the matter tonight and said that it is going to take “something enticing" for his team to trade away the second pick.
President of Basketball operations, Rod Higgins and Cho were both present at a press conference on Wednesday and stated that they are excited about the idea of bringing in a young prospect with their pick. However, they have also
kept the trade option open.
"We've had a ton of interest from across the league in the second pick," said Higgins, “We wouldn't be doing our jobs if we didn't listen and find alternative ways to try to help our ball club."
The Bobcats have already been busy on the trade market and have brought in the sharp shooting Ben Gordon over from Detroit Pistons in exchange for veteran swing man Corey Maggette. They have also acquired rights to a first round
pick as part of the trade.
Getting the rights to a future first round pick provides the Bobcats with a lot of options moving forward and they would be looking to improve after putting up the worst winning percentage in NBA history last season.
"We acquired a really valuable asset with the (Pistons') first-round pick -- especially with the protection involved -- that we can use down the road or in a trade. And we added a scorer and a shooter and consummate professional
in Ben that we're excited about." - Cho
However a lot of is work is piled up in regard to the rebuilding process for the Michael Jordan owned team. The Bobcats do have a lot of cap space available for next season and by possibly using the amnesty clause on Tyrus Thomas,
they are bound to create even more freedom.
Nevertheless the option of trading their second pick in the draft is still not out of the question as Cho is believed to functioning on the philosophy of doing everything necessary to meet the team needs whether it involves trading
their selection or upgrading through free agency.
