Charlotte Bonnet excels in Women’s 100m freestyle semi-finals – European Swimming Championships
Charlotte Bonnet of France excelled in the semi-final of Women’s 100m freestyle on day one of the 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Chartres, France on Thursday, November 22.
The French swimmer smothered hopes of her opponents in the semi-final of the 100m event as she qualified into the final round as strongest swimmer for the title.
With her unrelenting efforts in the 100m discipline, Bonnet managed to escape her closest swimmer over the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 53.04 seconds.
Bonnet was followed by Veronika Popova of Russia, who stayed 0.08 seconds behind and entered the final round as second fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 53.12 seconds.
Popova was followed by Jeanette Ottesen Gray of Denmark, who remained almost half a body length slower from her foregoing finisher and reached the finishing end for third position by clocking a time of 53.61 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the race was secured by Hanna-Maria Seppala of Finland, who stayed 0.20 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and posted an effort of 53.81 seconds.
Seppala was traced by Burcu Dolunay of Turkey, who stayed 0.12 seconds behind and completed her race in fifth place by touching the wall with the timing of 53.93 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the event was obtained by Pernille Blume of Denmark, who stayed 0.11 seconds behind and cruised her way towards the finishing wall by clocking an effort of 54.04 seconds.
Subsequently, Blume was followed by Cecilie Johannessen of Norway, who stayed only 0.10 seconds behind and touched the finishing wall for seventh place with the timing of 54.14 seconds.
Johannessen tried hard to improve her position in the semi-final but failed to do so. She remained 0.17 seconds ahead of Patricia Castro Ortega of Spain, who was lucky enough to secure the last qualification spot of the race and posted a time of 54.31 seconds.
In addition, Bonnet was pleased with her undisputed effort in the 100m discipline and told that she would try hard to impress her supporters by doing the same in the final round.
