Charlotte trade Matt Carroll for Hakim Warrick with New Orleans Hornets – NBA News
The Charlotte Bobcats, in another attempt to rebuild the team and drive it towards success, has traded Matt Carroll to the New Orleans Hornets on Tuesday in return for veteran forward Hakim Warrick. Warrick, who has played for five different teams in the NBA over the course of his seven year career, averages 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 49.4 percent shooting from the field over the course of his career.
"We are very excited to add a player of Hakim's ability and overall NBA experience. His athleticism allows him to play multiple positions, which will make for a smooth transition into our current roster and style of play under Coach Mike Dunlap,” said Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins.
Warrick has so far played in only 1 NBA game this season after being acquired by the Hornets during this past summer. His salary for this season in $4 million, and the Bobcats hold a $4 million option for next season. Carroll, on the other hand, will be taking in $3.5 million in salary this season.
Warrick was chosen by the Memphis Grizzlies with their 19th pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, after he helped Syracuse win the 2003 NCAA championship.
Carroll was acquired by the Bobcats in 2010 from the Dallas Mavericks in a trade that included Erick Dampier and Eduardo Najera. In 459 career games, Carroll is averaging 6.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
"Matt Carroll has been a consummate professional both on and off the court during his tenures in Charlotte, and we would like to thank him for everything he added to our franchise,” added Higgins.
The Bobcats have started the season decently with a 4-3 win record, after falling to the worst record in NBA history last season. They are planning to develop into a defence oriented team on the lines of the Chicago Bulls, and the addition of Warrick will be a step forward for them in their plans as he is a skilled defensive player who can guard multiple positions, and also give the team some good perimeter scoring in short intervals. He will be available to play for the Bobcats in their next scheduled game, if they decide so.
