Charminster to bounce back into form in the Emma Conlan Memorial Novices’ Chase at Carlisle
The Class 4 Emma Conlan Memorial Novices’ Chase is to be staged at Carlisle over two miles on Thursday, 22nd March. Competing for the £3, 054 purse are Charminster, Lightening Rod, Devotion To Duty and Signalman.
The only highly credible entry on the lineup is Charminster, Broadway Fyler’s six-year-old bay gelding out of mare Monteleena, who entered the new season striking a victory.
He was successful in the Country Refreshments Beginners’ Chase on 13th January at Musselburgh over two miles. The 11/8 favourite winner led the field of five by five lengths. The winner was paired up with Jason Maguire.
Concluding the race right behind the winner was Degas Art and trailing on to the third position was Vosges.
During the previous season, Charminster won once out of the three races he took part in and settled into the second place in the remaining starts.
On 25th January, Charminster was the 2/9 favourite winner of the John Wade Skip Hire “National Hunt” Novices’ Hurdle (Qualifier) at Sedgefield over two miles and a furlong.
Shan Blue caught up as the runner up after missing onto the chance of winning by a good seventeen lengths. Tiptoeaway covered ground for reserving the third position.
Charminster’s second and third races of the 2012 season had him missing out on both, with being declared unraced in the most recent. He needs to swing back into form after having missed on two opportunities.
Chasing and hurdling experience Charminster does have under his belt and how does he make the most of it today, will be out in the open soon.
Another note worthy entry on the lineup is Lightening Rod, Storming Home’s seven-year-old bay gelding out of mare Bolero, he has stepped into the new season but failed in the seasonal debut.
Lightening Rod’s last victory was in the Hexham Abbey Heritage Project Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase on 16th November 2011 at Hexham over two miles and half furlong.
He cornered Signalman into the second position by leading the track of five by four lengths. The 9/4 favourite of the race, Pena Dorada, parked at the fourth position after the winner.
The two are to encounter each another again today.
