Charroin/Fruttero down Felder/Sela to reach quarters – Farmers Classic 2012
French-American junction, Olivier Charroin and John Paul Fruttero, dumped the Uruguayan-Israeli clash, Marcel Felder and Dudi Sela, in straight sets at the Farmers Classic 2012 on Wednesday. They penned down a 7-5, 7-5 victory against their rivals to secure
a spot in the final eight at this Emirates Airline US Open Series event held in California, United States.
The French-American tandem showed superb skills and co-ordination to overpower Felder and Sela in their first battle against each other. After bagging the match in one hour and 36 minutes, Charroin and Paul Fruttero comfortably progressed into the quarter-finals
at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event.
First time paired-up, Charroin and Fruttero high-spiritedly entered the Los Angeles Tennis Center. They drew the first blood in the second game and jumped to a 3-0 lead. They squandered their edge in the fifth game but broke once again to take a 4-2 lead.
Despite gifting away their serve in the seventh game, the French-American team stayed focused and got the breakthrough in the last game, eventually sealing the opener with a 7-5 win.
Charroin and Fruttero kept momentum rolling in the following set and held their opening game to take the initial lead. The French-American pair ruled their serves until they got the coveted break in the eighth game and took a 5-3 lead. Apart from wasting
a chance of serving out the set, Charroin and Fruttero capitalised on another break opportunity in the last game and clicked the set with a 7-5 score line.
All in all, the winning tandem committed several unforced errors and nine double faults. However, they clobbered a better first serve share of 67 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 57 per cent and magnificently marked 34 out of 47 points on it.
Next up for the French-American team are the in-form Germans, Tobias Kamke and Bjorn Phau. The German junction stunned second seeds, Australia’s Colin Ebelthite and Britain’s Jonathan Marray, in a three-set thriller to set up this battle. They failed to
block both breakpoints they faced but capitalised on two out of three break chances, eventually sealing the deal with a 6-2, 1-6, 11-9 score line on Monday.
