  1. I do.

Is that all you wanted, just to know who knows the difference? That seems more like a poll question. I'm having a hard time making the connection to the homeschooling here....

  2. This web site will give you the information you are looking for.

Public versus private, and public versus charter.

  3. Charter schools are public schools since they are funded by the government, available to everyone and there is no charge. They are able to choose what to spend their funding on and usually offer more diverse and interesting classes. Most regular public schools do not offer art classes for elementary age but the majority of charter schools do offer this. My daughter was in charter school before and it was the best of her 3 years in public school, but it had many of the same issues as the surrounding public schools. We moved out of the area and had to fill out an application to attent this school, and did not bother.

  4. Charter schools ARE a form of Public School.  They are just small public schools.

  5. Here's the answer I gave you in a different section:

Charter Schools are technically public schools. They are run privately, but funded publicly and must adhere to public school requirements, however, they don't have a the bureaucracy and can spend that money more wisely than traditional public schools do.

Many charter schools allow kids to specialize their education in different areas. For instance, in my area, there is a preforming arts charter school, a technology charter school, an Ag charter and several home school charters.

  6. Charter schools can be closed more easily if they do not perform well. The teachers can be fired more easily if they are not up to par. The teachers are not forced to join the teacher's union. But, on the flip side, they have fewer regulations. This is because the push behind charter schools is to be able to experiment a bit to see if a school can find a better way to go about educating than the standard public school. One positive result of charters is that they can genuinely give public alternatives to a local school district. If you don't like your district's high school, you used to not have a public alternative to it. Now, many communities have charters to compete for students. This creates positive market competion forcing the standard public school to improve or lose students.

Charter schools are often heavily opposed by teacher's unions and in many states they have been instrumental in passing legislation preventing that state from having even the first one and in others they have fought so hard against the charters that the charters get some very stringent enrollment caps.

Personally, I think that the charters offer a potential solution to public schools. Some charter experiments have been amazingly successful. A few have been a tad wacky in their ideas and the results showed it. Of course those often get the press.
