Question:

Chartering A Train In The U.K.?

Right, I know this may seem daft. I know it is possible to Charter a train from certain Railway Companies for Private functions, weddings, Charity events, or Sporting Events, but does anone know how much it actually costs assuming all goes to plan? Is there a set number of people/customers, does it depend on the time of year eg. Season. Maybe more expensive near a Bank Holiday or over a weekend or even if you a particular wanting a Steam train for a 50th Birthday or wedding Anniversary etc.

Any information will be helpful!

  1. You have been given an answer about the Severn Valley Railway. All preserved lines would be delighted to charter you a train. Cost will vary between steam and diesel traction. It is unlikely that you would be able to charter one over a busy bank holiday or weekend, as it would be difficult, if not impossible, to find a path between 'service' trains, although an evening at that time might be ok, after normal services have ended for the day. It is also possible, but horrendously expensive, to charter a train on the mainlines - this is usually done by big companies only.

  2. I've read the Comminuty Guidelines and this anwser is permitted!

Train Chartering supplies private charter Trains throughout the UK, subject to Network Rail planning.

Luxury Train Club offers a good way to research three UK luxury trains that are available for charter.

I can send you on request our guide to charter train planning - Planning a Train (UK) - which sets out the whole process.

A mainline charter will always be more expensive than one on a heritage line.

  3. I have exactly the type of thing you need.

That link takes you to the severn valley railway website, into the corporate section where they offer their steam trains for hospitality and functions. The prices are shown on that page I think also under the prices link.

This train service runs through Shropshire and I'm not sure where else. But it is certainly worth a look!
