Chase Kalisz conquers Men’s 400m IM prelims – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Chase Kalisz of USA conquered the qualification round of Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday, August 24.
Kalisz smothered his opponents with his fantastic effort in the prelims of the distant IM event. He demonstrated his notable efforts in the eight-lap discipline and entered the final round as strongest swimmer for gold medal.
Kalisz stayed full body length ahead of his strongest challenger and emerged on the finishing blockade for first position with the timing of 4 minutes and 16.45 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained 0.98 seconds faster from Gunnar Bentz of USA, who made his way into the final round as second best finisher with a timing of 4 minutes and 17.43 seconds.
Bentz was chased by Daiya Seto of Japan, who stayed 0.84 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 18.27 seconds for third position.
Seto was trailed by Jared Gilliland of Australia, who stayed three and a half body lengths behind and clocked a time of 4 minutes and 21.87 seconds.
Similarly, fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Keita Sunama of Japan, who stayed considerably slower and transpired on the finishing blockade with an effort of 4 minutes and 25.94 seconds.
Sunama was trailed by Eugene Tee of Australia, who stayed 0.73 seconds away from upsetting his former finisher and reported a time of 4 minutes and 26.67 seconds for sixth best position.
Tee was followed by Luke Reilly of Canada, who remained 0.38 seconds behind and tapped the wall for seventh qualifying position with a timing of 4 minutes and 27.05 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was obtained by William Brothers of Canada, who stayed 0.29 seconds apart and rushed his way towards the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 27.34 seconds.
In addition, Kalisz was happy with his gruelling form in the 400m discipline and stated that he would try his level best to secure gold medal of the race.
