Chase Kalisz pockets Men’s 400m IM title – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Chase Kalisz of USA pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday, August 24.
Kalisz, who entered the playoff as top contender for gold medal, made his fans happier by proving his mettle for the top spot on the victory stand.
With his persistent efforts, he remained nearly 10 metres ahead of his closest swimmer as he tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 12.59 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Keita Sunama of Japan, who stayed almost seven seconds apart and finished second in the race by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 19.28 seconds.
Sunama was traced by Gunnar Bentz of USA, who stayed one body length slower from his foregoing finisher and stepped on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 20.11 seconds.
Bentz was chased by Jared Gilliland of Australia, who stayed 1.14 seconds apart and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 4 minutes and 21.25 seconds.
Similarly, fifth finest spot of the distant IM race was obtained by William Brothers of Canada, who stayed nearly four seconds behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 25.37 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Luke Reilly of Canada, who remained prominent for sixth position of the discipline and posted a time of 4 minutes and 27.60 seconds.
Reilly was chased by Eugene Tee of Australia, who stayed nearly seven seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 4 minutes and 34.20 seconds for seventh position.
Daiya Seto of Japan, who qualified as the second fastest swimmer, was disqualified from the race due to a false start and thus failed to secure any position.
In addition, Kalisz was extremely pleased with his performance in the 400m discipline and addressed his fans by expressing that he would train harder to continue the same at higher levels of international swimming.
