Chase Kalisz pockets Men’s 400m IM title – Swimming News
Chase Kalisz of North Baltimore pocketed the title of Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on third day of the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships & World Championship Trials in Indianapolis on Thursday, June 27.
The 19-year-old Kalisz went full rampant in the distant IM discipline as he secured his spot in the American team for the 2013 World Championships. After the scintillating form of Maya Dirado in the Women’s 400m IM, Kalisz occupied
the crown of the event.
He faced no competition from his toughest competitor in the 400m event as he rushed his way towards the finishing wall for the title with an effort of 4 minutes and 11.83 seconds.
The champion was chased by Tyler Clary of Club Wolverine-M, who was nearly three seconds slower from his former finisher and emerged on the finishing wall for second position with the timing of 4 minutes and 14.62 seconds.
The second best finisher was traced by Michael Weiss of Wisconsin Aquatics, who was 1.13 seconds apart and concluded his race in a time of 4 minutes and 15.75 seconds.
Subsequently, Weiss was chased by Josh Prenot of California Aquatics, who stayed prominently behind and finished fourth in the event with the timing of 4 minutes and 16.42 seconds.
Prenot had a narrow escape from his following swimmer, Stephen Schmuhl of Indiana University, who was only 0.13 seconds apart and concluded his race in fifth place with the timing of 4 minutes and 16.55 seconds.
Schmuhl was followed by Carlos Omana of Metro Aquatic Club, who was 2.04 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 18.59 seconds.
Similarly, Omana was trailed by Adam Hinshaw of California Aquatics, who was full body length behind and ended his race in seventh place with the timing of 4 minutes and 19.41 seconds.
Hinshaw was traced by Kyle Whitaker of University of Michigan, who was 0.15 seconds behind and posted an effort of 4 minutes and 19.56 seconds.
In addition, Kalisz was overjoyed with his top finish in the 400m IM and articulated that he would try to achieve the same at forthcoming World Championships.
