Hi, I am a 17 year old, and yesterday i was on a chat room, and i was chatting to a 15 year old girl. We seemed to get on at first, then she suggested naughty talk. We had just started doing abit role playing untill a message from the fbi had come up warning me and threatening me accusing me of been a pedofile. It sounded very serious and you could just tell this was not that same girl talking.He/She asked me for my name and age, but they still didnt believe me. They carried on to say that they could trace me through my ip adress. I carried on the conversation appoligising throuhout, they warned me never to return to the chat room or they would tell my dad everything that had gone on. I am now really worried as i was using my parents computer.Could they really contact my parents? I have not been able to sleep for nights, and i am so worried that i may have someone watching me or the police come knocking on my phone. I feel like destroying the computers. I am so down, can anyone help

  1. As others have pointed out, the FBI (or any other organization like it) would never conduct a conversation like that. Like many other kids, you've just been a victim of cyber-bullying....someone having a laugh at your expense (it's also illegal in many parts of the world).

Chalk this one up to experience and put it behind you.

  2. If it was the FBI, they wouldn't be sending you a chat message. They'd be visiting your house. It is probably some jerk just s******g around with you... so I wouldn't be too worried about it. It might be that the girls parents were the ones pretending to be the FBI.

That said, be smart about what you do online - what seems innocent to you may not be to the person on the other end.

  3. Thats totally bogus dude.

Someone was totally messing with you.

Anyone like the FBI is not going to ask you your name, and they are not going to "threaten" to trace your ip address.

The FBI doesn't need to threaten nor would they tell you they were going to actually do it.

Someone was playing a joke on you.

For future reference you cannot trace an IP to an exact address and home where someone lives... The most you can narrow it down to is the local city of their ISP (Internet Service provider).

    For example

    Go to http://www.dnsstuff.com

Input this IP into "IP INFORMATION"

    24.56.31.84

    Then click "Lookup"

You will see on the next page it says that IP is located in

City (per outside source):      Tempe, Arizona

Country (per outside source):   US [United States]

This gives you the city of the Internet Service Provider which is "Cox Communications".

This means the most you can get from an IP trace is the name of the internet company that person is using.

If you are the FBI you can trace an IP then call that persons Internet provider and find out which customer uses that IP then they have your address.

The FBI has much bigger things to worry about.

Someone was just playing a joke on you. Next time tell them to trace your ip, and ask them to tell you what your address is. I promise you they won't be able to.

  4. Your parents are already in the know but they are still wondering what foster home to take you to.

Seriously, you are way too gullible. Do you actually think the FBI would warn you online? They'd go right down to action, and be at your doorstep the next second. Chris Hansen and everything.

  5. First I am not questioning you as a pedophile, you can or could not be one.. if so you need help.. just keeping it real.

Second You should never say anything in a chat room that can be considered in approbriate, to anyone.. young or old.

Third: You can be, even at the tender age of 17, if you are 17, be prosecuted as a pedophile in some states if I am correct.

Now that I got that out... I think someone else was messing with you and I see they got to you.  Can all the the things he/she said about tracing you be true... yes it can.. but most law enforcement will not do this in open chat.. it will blow there cover and if there was a real pedophile there, which I hope there was'nt, then he or she will be scared off.

I pray that if you are sincere, that this taught you a lesson.  Chat is fun and all that, but dealing with underage children is not cool at all, and if you were not being sincere I hope you get help.
