Yahoo has this process, and also a "personals" where you can flirt, but that costs some money. Would anyone like it if they established a "chat room" where you can talk to others of your own choosing without having to worry about voyeurism? Even if they charged to do it. I have found people on answers with common problems that I'd like to discuss one on one.

For IM, Yahoo does have a free Instant Messaging service.  Here is the link for that:  http://messenger.yahoo.com

If you want to send emails or Instant Messages to people who post on Yahoo Answers, locate a current or resolved question or answer posted by them.  Then click on their avatar to go to their YA profile.  If they have their email or IM available to communicate with other YA users, click on the little envelope icon or IM icon to communicate with them.  It would be up to them if they want to answer you back.
