Chatham sweeps Taconic Hills in Patroon Conference match - Volleyball news
A Patroon Conference boys varsity volleyball match took place between Chatham and Taconic Hills. The two teams played against each other on December 7th in the home town of Chatham. The match did not take too long to reach a conclusion as the
Chatham boys were able to seal the deal on their opponents by making a clean sweep. The score board translated the win for the Chatham in the following final set points: 25-20, 25-11 and 25-14.
The coach of the winning team, Matt Torrey, expressed his jubilation after the closure of the match in the following words: “We were definitely out of sync early on and weren’t communicating well. In the second and third sets we did much better. Andrew Willett
has had a really strong start to the season and Adam Taylor played well in his first start at libero today. All of the kids got playing time and did well.”
On the other hand, the coach of the losing team, Kayla Demarest, shared his views by making the following statements: “We struggled a lot with our passing and we need to have better coverage on the receiving end of hits.”
The player that stood most prominent from the Chatham side was Kevin Flanagan as he made his presence felt by making three points off service while 12 from kills. Flanagan was helped by his team-mate, Chase Smith, who added six service points and one on
an ace along with putting up five kills and seven assists.
The first set of the match saw both the teams come out strong against each other and stayed almost neck to neck for the most part of the frame. However, as the set reached its final stages, Chatham was able to put on a spurt of speed that took them to the
end of the frame and a set win at 25-20. The loss of the first set did not sit well with the Taconic Hills boys and they put in a half hearted effort in the second set that was apparent in the sluggish performance of the squad which only made it easier for
Chatham to get themselves another frame at 25-11. The third set was also dominated by the Chatham side as they built on the momentum generated by winning the initial two frames and sealed the deal on the third one at 25-14.
The recent win has improved the conference record of the Chatham squad to a total of one win. The number of defeats that the home team has incurred so far is also one. Next in line for the Chatham boys is a match against Hudson while the losing team, Taconic
Hills, is going to be welcoming Cairo-Durham on Monday.
