Chattanooga volleyball team loses fifth match in a row; UNCG celebrates victory
The month of November did not bring better luck for Chattanooga University Women’s volleyball team as they received another hard blow from Spartans of UNCG. The Chattanooga team received a 0-3 (24-26, 20-25, 13-25) defeat from UNCG on Friday, November 4,
,aking it their fifth loss in a row.
The exciting volleyball affair was staged at the Fleming Gymnasium in Greensboro, North Carolina. Victory helped the winning team to improve to an overall win/loss record of 15-14 on the running season, while Chattanooga is still struggling with 5-23 record.
Ariel Nemanled of UNCG contributed 11 kills with a hitting percentage of .478 and committed no errors. Likewise, her teammate Karrian Chambers did a great job in leading her team to success. Chambers nearly had a double-double as she recorded 12 kills and
nine digs. Moreover, Kellie Orewiler notched match-high 23 digs and played a big part in team’s success.
On the other side, Kuroski and Heather Parman put a lot of effort for Mocs. Both of them scored 11 kills apiece but it proved to be a failing effort as the team on the whole lost the match. Melissa Green applied good reception tactics and of added a team-high
17 digs.
The opening set of the match was a point-to-point battle. Both teams showed good fighting spirit and amused the spectators with eye-catching action. First tie of the match was seen at 6-all. Afterwards, Kuroski and Parman of Mocs formed a good combination
and added quick points. Kuroski enjoyed great form and delivered hard pushes, while Parman offered strong resistance to opponents’ attacks. Chattanooga built 6-point at 13-7 before UNCG responded with flurry of unstoppable spikes. They chased and tied the
score at 14-all, which broke the tempo of pumped-up Chattanooga players.
Nonetheless, the game of hit and run continued until Spartans closed off opening set with narrow margin of two points at 26-24.
Mocs hit back strongly in second set and picked up early lead. For a moment it seemed as if Mocs would take over the control of the game but heavy strike of volleys by the UNCG players spoiled the whole scene. They added consecutive points and pushed the
opponents behind the line. They built 9-3 lead and promptly rallied past to 20-12. The second set also came successful for Spartans as they sent 25-20 on board.
The match turned into a heated competition in the third set. However, Spartans were able to carry the momentum and kept the operations well under hand. Mocs tried almost everything to catch up with UNCG but failed to do so. Charged-up Spartans took a commanding
17-5 lead after a kill by Chambers and restricted the opponent to a low score. Chattanooga could only score 13 points in third set, which was a clear sign of victory for UNCG. Spartans pulled off success in straight sets and celebrated 3-0 win over Mocs.
