President of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Asif Ali Zardari, who is also the Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board, appointed Zaka Ashraf, the president of Zarai Taraqiati Bank limited (ZTBL), as new chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday.
Zardari scheduled a meeting with Ashraf before appointing him as Chairman PCB and a formal notification of this decision will be issued soon.
Zaka Ashraf will be replacing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, who completed his 3-year tenure on October 8, 2011.
Ashraf himself appeared on private TV channels and delivered a lengthy speech about his ambitions for PCB and bringing International cricket back home in the near future. Moreover, he said that it would be difficult to handle various matters prevailing in
PCB initially, but he will take control as soon as possible.
"I will work day and night to live up to President Zardari's confidence. My top priority will be to improve Pakistan's cricket image and stop bookies and match-fixers," said Ashraf Zaka.
Ashraf’s three years tenure as ZTBL president came to an end on September 3, 2011. ZTBL is one of Pakistan’s top public sector banks and was also represented by a team in division one of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, which is Pakistan’s domestic first-class contest.

Former Pakistani batsman, the “Asian Bradman” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Syed-Zaheer-Abbas-Kirmani-c92392, had earlier shown interest in taking up the prestigious position after Butt's regime ended.
On the other hand, it was reported that Ijaz Butt was also looking for an extension; however, the Patron-in-chief appointed the Banker, who according to some news channels, was a class-fellow of the President.
The new appointment has come under criticism from some circles, but others hope to see a fresh start after the much controversial Butt reign. It remains to be seen whether the new Chairman PCB can bring hope for cricket in Pakistan.
