The one time NBA Champion and former Detroit Piston, Chauncey Billups declares his recovery is way ahead of schedule....
Chauncey Billups became a key member of the Los Angeles Clippers in the 20 games he played, before going down with a left Achilles tendon injury which caused him to miss out a huge chunk of basketball action last season.
It has been a slow recovery process and as per team sources, the former NBA Finals MVP is not expected to be back until mid-November. However, Billups himself is very eager to return to a team he once was very reluctant in joining.
“When my body feels right, that’s when I’ll be back,” he said. “That being said, I’m far ahead of schedule.”
For Billups, the affiliation with the Clippers has seen a complete turnaround as he grew a very good on-court chemistry with Chris Paul in the short spell for which he played last season. During that span, he averaged 14.9 points,
2.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists and even though a career threatening injury ended his season, the one guard continued playing a key role with the Clippers while sitting courtside.
He offered wisdom to young players on the team including the likes of Blake Griffin, Paul and Eric Bledsoe and had the veteran been around deep in the playoffs, the Clips might have fared better against an experienced and ruthless
San Antonio Spurs outfit.
The veteran point guard has not taken any time off during the summer and has constantly been working to get back in right shape before next season;
“It’s not even like I had a summer. I’ve been on the whole time, doing rehabbing and other work every day. I’m looking forward to getting back to playing and being with the guys and resuming my normal life as a player.”
However as optimistic as Billups is for an early return, the Clippers management have declared that they will slowly work him into playing and he might miss the start of the season. However, the return of Billups is guaranteed
and when that happens, the small lineup with which the Clips like to operate will be bolstered quite significantly.
