The veteran All Star point guard is looking forward to contributing to team success by returning as early as possible.
For an NBA athlete who has played in 15 seasons and won an NBA title, Chauncey Billups still has a lot of passion for the game of basketball.
That is exactly the reason why when he went down in February this year with an Achilles injury, he made it clear to the world that he would not be retiring. And Billups has proven his words right, re-signing with the Los Angeles
Clippers for next season in free agency, and working hard on his rehab programme to be available for the team as soon as possible.
It takes a great deal of dedication and hard work for a 15 year veteran to return from an Achilles injury, but Billups has his goal clear in his eyes, and continues to make giant leaps towards attaining it.
During the Clippers media day on Friday, the wily one guard was asked about his timeline for return. While he conceded that he would not be ready for opening night, Billups did say that he was looking to return to the side before
the New Year began.
“I wish I could play opening night, to be honest with you. I wish I could but I know that is really not going to happen. I don’t really have a target, I am just going to listen to my body. I heard people saying January or February
but that is way out of the question. That is definitely not going to happen,” said Billups on the occasion, according to Sporting News.
In the 2010-11 season, Billups was traded to the New York Knicks to give some support to All Star forward Carmelo Anthony, but was then amnestied last off season to make room for Tyson Chandler. He was picked off the waivers by
the Clippers against his wish, but is now happy with his new team and signed a contract extension to prove it.
Although the Clippers are set on the back court with Chris Paul as their leader, and Jamal Crawford and Eric Bledsoe to back him up. However, Billups brings extensive experience, particularly of competing in the playoffs, which
can prove crucial and of great importance for any team. He is a great motivator and team leader both on and off the court, part of the reason why Chris Paul personally talked to him and tried to convince him to return for next season.
