Chauncey Billups questionable for Friday night against Chicago Bulls
Veteran point guard Chauncey Billups will be a game time decision when the Denver Nuggets go up against the Chicago Bulls on Friday 26 November at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
Billups, who is averaging 13.8 points and 4.7 assists per game this season, sat out in their game against the Golden State Warriors on Monday 22 November because of a wrist injury and fractured
nose.
The 34-year-old point guard, who sustained the injuries on 20 November against the New Jersey Nets after a nasty face-first fall on the floor, practiced with team on Wednesday 24 November,
but he said that he would still be doubtful in their game against the Bulls.
Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony also said that Billups is still bothered by his injuries and he is hoping that the 13-year veteran would recover in time for their tough match-up against
Derrick Rose and the Bulls.
“I think the wrist was bothering him a little bit more,” Anthony said. “Going out there, he told me he was going to play. So, obviously, it was bothering him more than that. But I think this
week couldn't have come at a better time for him, for us, just to get everybody's bodies right, get a little bit of rest.”
Denver head coach George Karl, on the other hand, believes that Billups would be able to play after seeing him practice well and having a rest on Thursday, but he is also not discounting
the possibility of missing his backcourt general for the second-straight game.
Without Billups, Karl would probably start second-year guard Ty Lawson for the second-straight game. The former North Carolina standout, Lawson, started for the first time this season in
their game against the Warriors and he responded well, scoring 14 points to go with five assists and four rebounds.
Karl was impressed with how Lawson ran their offensive sets against the Warriors, saying that the 23-year-old guard is showing tremendous improvements this season. “We're blessed to have
a guy who could be starting for some teams in this league,” he said.
