The last quarterfinal game of the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship Cup was played between last year’s runner up Al Rayyan of Qatar and Applied Science University of Jordan. After a tight contest, Al Rayyan burst through in the second
half and wrapped up a breathtaking 83-77 win to clinch the last semi-final berth. The top performers from the game are discussed below.
Chauncey Leslie
Al Rayyan’s prolific player Chauncey Leslie spearheaded the Qatari’s with his electrifying performance. The 29-year-old player landed a game-high 29 points and dished out 6 assists to put Al Rayyan on the frontline. Chauncey was
absolutely flawless from the charity stripe and buried 12 free throws on as many attempts. The star of the game connected 54 percent of his field goal attempts and also landed three treys from the long range.
Jameel Watkins
The American Player Jameel Watkins was two rebounds short from a double-double as he racked up a team high 23 points and gathered 8 rebounds, performing most of his exploits in the first half of the game. Watkins played for 27
minutes and shot 63 percent from the field but only 60 percent from the free throw line. However, Al Rayyan shut him down in the second half , which proved to be vital in their win.
Michael Cuffee
Guard Michael Cuffee provided a substantial support to Al Rayyan after halftime. The versatile player was the second best scorer in the Al Rayyan’s line-up as notched up 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Cuffee also provided spark
from beyond the arc and buried 3 blows from downtown. Overall, he also connected 42 percent of the shots made from the field.
Osama Daghles
Despite of a magnificent all round performance from the veteran guard Osama Daghles; the Jordanians failed to carry the action after halftime. The 31 year old player landed 12 points, handed out 8 assists and gathered 5 rebounds
on the night.
