Chayut Triyachart and Lei Yao claim Mixed Doubles crown at the 2011 Yonex Belgian International
The final day of the 2011 Yonex Belgian International belonged to Singapore’s Chayut Triyachart and Lei Yao, as the couple defeated Netherlands’ Jorrit De Ruiter and Selena Piek in the Mixed doubles final to claim the crown, on Sunday, September 18, in Belgium.
The Singaporeans were placed at number 32 in the main draw of Mixed Doubles at the Belgian International. They played tremendous badminton against the Netherlands’ spirited shuttlers and won the battle in three games which took them 53 minutes of work hard.
The wonderful display of quality badminton earned glory for the Singaporean players and they went home with the title.
The opening set of the title-match was quite interesting as both sides remained toe-to-toe throughout the set. The score progressed equally as no one could manage ca omfortable lead until the score reached at the breath-taking stage of 23-23. Triyachart
and Yao made a mistake and lost the opening set with a 23-25 margin.
The second set of this wonderful match was equally interested in the opening half of the match, when both couples remained neck-to-neck. They were playing attacking badminton with wonderful control over the pace of the parallel rallies. Their jumping smashes
and incredible defensive strokes kept the score tied until the interval, where the Singaporeans were ahead at 11-9.
After the break, Triyachart and Yao accelerated their speed to stretch the lead and remained successful in playing positive badminton. They levelled the match by grabbing the second set with the decent difference of 21-16.
In the final set of this wonderful title-battle, the Singaporean duo surprised their opponents by playing a completely different game. Their low serves, parallel pushes, net killings and hard to return smashes earned them a considerable advantage over their
rivals in the match. De Ruiter and Piek failed to play a positive game and made numerous unforced errors which helped the Singaporeans to finish the battle with a 21-14 margin.
Triyachart and Yao won the title-match in three games of 53 minutes with a 23-25, 21-16 and 21-14 score on the board.
